STUDIJSKI POSJET SUBOTICI I TAVANKUTU

Aktivnost 1.3 Studijski posjet

As part of the project, numerous activities are planned and implemented, including Activity 1.3. – Study visits, which includes two study visits for cooperation with local naive artists and cultural organizations. It is intended for the project team and members of the NATUS network.

The activity is designed to provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of the local naive art scene and its potential for sustainable tourism development in the cross-border region. It will provide participants with first-hand experiences and insights into the creative process of naive art, its cultural significance, its role in the community and how it can be promoted as part of sustainable tourism.

The first study visit took the participants to the locations of naive art in Ernestinovo, Croatia, then to a visit to artists’ studios and the Petar Smajić Gallery of naive art.

After the first study visit, which took place in Ernestinovo, the second study visit was organized by the project partner – the National Council of Croatian National Minority (HNV) in the Republic of Serbia with headquarters in Subotica, which included a visit to Matica – the headquarters of the HNV in Subotica and to the association “Gallery of the First Naive Colony in Straw Technique” in Tavankut.

The study visit was held on November 19th, 2024.

Meetings were also held with local cultural associations engaged in the promotion and preservation of naive art to provide insight into how these organizations operate, their efforts in promoting naive art, their inspirations and challenges, and to see and understand part of their creative processes.

The study visit to Subotica and Tavankut began as planned at 09:30 with the arrival of the project team and guests from the Municipality of Ernestinovo from the Republic of Croatia to the Croatian House of Matica – the headquarters of the Croatian National Council. For this purpose, the basement space of the old HNV, right next to the Matica, will be adapted and equipped with the necessary equipment.

After that, the guests, accompanied by our straw artists, went on a tour of the largest collection of straw crowns in the headquarters of the Subotica Bishopric.

After visiting the exhibition of crowns, everyone went to Tavankut. The guests visited a collection of straw paintings, among which the first such painting was made in the 1970s in the Parish Hall of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Tavankut, and then in the premises of the association “Gallery of the First Naive Colony in Straw Technique” – where members of the association presented their work and naive creativity, and told the story of the creation of the First Naive Colony in Straw Technique – the president of the association Ljubica Vuković Dulić, Jozefina Skenderović, Branko Horvat, Marija Prćić Rukavina and other members.

Then there was a tour of the exhibition in the Gallery, followed by an interactive session with artists – straw makers, presentation of the technique of making pictures and other objects from straw – introduction to straw artists/makers: Dobrinka Babijanović, Ana Šujić, Marija Gabrić, Vesna Petreš, Marija Dulić, Jozefina Skenderović, Marija Prćić Rukavina and other straw artists, and to all the members involved in the promotion and preservation of naive art.
